What’s in my scone?

What’s in my scone?

What we try and reinforce all the time within the team is “attention to detail”

This is particularly important when clients are unable to fully articulate for themselves and rely on the care team for those day to day bits we all take for granted.

Here’s a good example:

[dt_list style=”1″ bullet_position=”middle” dividers=”true”][dt_list_item image=””]1. The butter was too thick[/dt_list_item][dt_list_item image=””]2. There was marmalade in it[/dt_list_item][/dt_list]

Her point was: ‘Who puts marmalade in a scone?”

I looked at Nicola. “Who puts marmalade in a scone?” I said.

To which Nicola replied, “I quite like marmalade in my scone actually.”

“Do you?” I said. “Hmmm”.

And I went back to the email. There was another picture. Of a cheese sandwich.

This time the cheese was too thick. And sure enough there was a thick slice of cheese in that sandwich.

“Oh,” I said. “I quite like a block of cheese in my sandwich.”

“Ooh no,” said Nicola (she was now looking over my shoulder at the offending sandwich) “That’s much too thick, I prefer it grated”.

Opinions aside, now every one of our carers who goes to that client knows exactly how to prepare the food

Because – and this is really the point – when you can’t make a sandwich for yourself, the way someone else makes your tea, butters your scone or cuts your cheese is really important. Otherwise you NEVER get those things the way you like them.

I couldn’t imagine never getting my cup of tea in the morning made how I like it. Just the thought of insipid, milky tea makes me shudder.

And if I got that and the cheese in my sandwich was always too thin, you know what?

I’d complain too.
